You can use the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sewhistorically.com\/diy-natural-sloe-laundry-ink\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">berries<\/a>\u00a0as well as the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sewhistorically.com\/how-to-make-medieval-blackthorn-ink-a-tutorial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bark<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Preparing The Fabric<\/h2>\n<p>I used cotton fabric for the print samples. You can also use silk, but the blues will be more purple on silk. Prewash and iron your fabrics before printing. I didn\u2019t use mordant \u2013 except for the iron tannin print \u2013 because I wanted to show you the natural print colors.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sewhistorically.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Natural-Dye-Ink-From-Plants-3.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Natural Ink Colors<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Blue<\/strong>:\u00a0red cabbage, bilberries, sloe berries (without ironing)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Teal:<\/strong>\u00a0red cabbage + baking soda (turns grey after some month)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Brown:<\/strong>\u00a0onion skins, walnut hulls, sloe berries (with ironing), blackthorn bark, horse chestnut leaves<\/p>\n<p><strong>Grey:<\/strong>\u00a0bilberries (ironed before washing)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dark brown or black:<\/strong>\u00a0iron + tannin<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Did you know that you can make your own fabric printing inks with things you\u2019ll find in the nature?
